IMHO you can't dial in a chip (nor, apparently, a boost controller ) unless you have the data to see if you are harming your engine. EGT, boost and coolant temp I regard as a minimum, I also have oil pressure and coolant level alarm. Without proper instrumentation you are clueless as to what conditions your combustion chamber is seeing. The temp/time equation for failure cannot be predicted unless someone (and it ain't gonna be me!) tests one to destruction, so I operate conservatively at 10-11psi boost, max 720C EGT measured at turbine inlet and max 100C coolant temp at the exit of the cyl head. I can't say what EGT it hit, but prolonged high EGT is what will eventually affect the metallurgy in both pistons and head. I haven't blown an engine, just cracked a head after the boost hit 14+psi while I was dialling in a boost controller. Simon02 KZJ95 with 120k on it at the time. I appreciate you sharing your unfortunate experience of burning your engine while using a chip. He told me all the euro diesels inject at around that pressure.T303, you seem to have had an experience burning your engine with a chip, can you share that experience ?, ie: what engine, what chip, how long it was installed prior to it burning your engine, how many kms on your vehicle, what model prado and what year. He did say that injecting at 30,000psi is a bit of an unknown. He did say the changes that the DP made appeared to not adversely affect the engine. He did tweak it a tad(probably thru one of the settings). I had mine tuned up by turbo Engineering in Melbourne and ray informed me that the DP chip increases injection PSI to gain the increase in performance. I also run UNI Filter and a larger exhaust(beaudesert). I don't work my Prado very hard and the chip does its job well.

In standard trim I feel that the prado is a little sluggish at lower RPM, and in my opinion thats where the chip helps the most. I tow a 20' van and it is definitely an improvement. I have a DP chip in my Prado D4D (2008)Auto. Fuel rail pressure? Inlet temperature? Like I said, was just hoping to find someone here with experience in this. I'm not questioning the price, just don't wanna see him stuff it. The local performance diesel workshop has been trying to sell him a "dp chip" for somewhere around $1200.
